Shelby Forrest is pictured    here with a Corsair, one of the many planes he flew during his career in the Marines and as a member of The Checkerboard Squadron.

Internet fans have loved his Poetry for years and now we have a A SUPERB PRINT EDITION OF OUT OF THE FOREST AS WELL AS AN E-BOOK.

From the Introduction to the Book:

Shelby Forrest is a well-known identity in Internet Poetry spheres. He has become a Mentor and an example to all who aspire to master rhyme and meter.

Out of the Forrest represents over fifty years of commitment to Poetry, and to the values and principles which enrich our lives and ease our journey in these troubled times.

As a Poet, Shelby Forrest works the mechanics of his craft with an ease which enables him to reach all sections of society; and he extracts maximum advantage from the discipline that comes with having to match a wide range of subject matter with a defined technical style.

This is the style of Poetry a lot of us grew up with; and as such it has not only served to introduce us to the world of Poets, but it also defines our heritage whilst affording us the opportunity to put in perspective our own little part of the world around us.

Welcome to the world of Shelby Forrest. Enter it and you will immediately recognize and appreciate what is considered a dying Art in most Poetry circles. You will also find a remarkable sympathy and understanding of the human condition as the story of life unfolds in a simple yet revealingly honest way.

Come, celebrate this life, as Shelby Forrest shares with you the observations and emotions of a Poet inspired by Family, Children, Animals, Faith, Love, Philosophy, Humor, the Military and a deep and abiding love for his country.

ABOUT SHELBY FORREST

Shelby is a retired Administrator, retiring as a School Principal after 35 years in the Upland Unified School District, Upland , Ca. His retirement from the United States Marine Corps Reserve coincided with the school district retirement. A Naval Aviator, Shelby retired as a Colonel with a total of 30 years service. Ten of these years were served on active duty--5 years during WWII and 5 years after recall for Korean War duty in 1950.

Since his retirement in 1983, Shelby has been a free-lance Photographer and Journalist and now also acts as a 'surrogate grandfather' in his role as a substitute Teacher in the lower grades of his school district.

Shelby and his wife have been married for 51 years and have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. Shelby grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas but now resides in California, having moved there with the Marine Corps in 1943.

What Shelby says about his Poetry:

I have always been interested in Poetry, and I have been writing my own off and on for nearly 50 years. However, the majority has been written in the last 15 or so years. It has served as an outlet for using whatever creative expression I may possess and for my own personal satisfaction. I like to share with those of similar interests and with those who also love Poetry.

Shelby on his Military Career:

I went into Naval Aviation training soon after WWII started. I came out as a 2nd Lt. in the Marine Corps. I had one combat tour in the Marshall Islands for a year, and then after discharge in 1947, I finished school at the Univ. of Southern California in Los Angeles. I taught school for one year, until recalled for active duty for the Korean War (I remained in the Marine Corps Reserve Program after discharge) I spent nearly a year in Korea, flying combat off both carriers and land bases. I flew fighter planes--F4U Corsair in both WWII and Korea. I flew jets after returning, and was in the reserve program until retirement from the inactive Reserve. I had a total of 10 years active duty, with a total of 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. I retired with the rank of full Colonel.

How Out of the Forest will appeal:

I do write a lot of Children's Poetry as well as my other Poetry. I could have a varied audience... children, church groups, military, seniors, parents. My poems include humor (limericks and other), and I have poems about pets, Philosophy, Religion, Faith, Love and Affection and varied miscellaneous topics. All my Poetry is written in rhyme and meter.
