Henry's Lesson

by

This is the story of a cat called Thomas and Pudgy, a little Pekinese dog. Thomas and Pudgy spend all day long arguing over the silliest of things. Like rain. Another cat, wise old Henry grows impatient with Thomas and Pudgy arguing all the time. When Henry explains to Thomas and Pudgy exactly why it is always raining, they don't believe him:

"... I happen to know there is another reason why it rains so much..."

"What's that, Henry?" asked Thomas.

Henry sighed, "It rains when the fairies can't stop crying because of all the arguing going on in the world."

"That's the silliest thing I've ever heard!" Pudgy said.

"You don't believe me, do you, Pudgy?" Henry asked.

"Noooo...! I'm a big boy now. I don't believe in fairies and other such nonsense." Pudgy scoffed.

"Well then," Henry cleared his throat again, "I'll just have to show you, won't I?"

And show them he does. A visit that night to the fairies' camp proves that Henry is right. Thomas and Pudgy are so shocked to learn that they are the reason why it is raining all the time they are determined to do something about it. They decide that if they stop arguing the fairies will not be upset and won't be crying all the time. Maybe then it won't rain so much.

So... why Henry's Lesson?

These days simple things seem to be overlooked when it comes to passing on messages to kids. Children are children and not three year-olds going on twenty-one. Fairies and animals are a beautiful way to teach children values through the magic of story-telling. This story is only short, perfect for a quick bed-time read and a little discussion before bed.
